Affirmation Theatre Company celebrates Black artists and stories with their Fourth Annual Pro Black One Acts Festival Live in Manhattan!

Pro Black One Acts celebrates the rich culture that is Black history, featuring plays with dynamic Black protagonists between the dates Friday, July 29th and Sunday July 31st!

Affirmation Theatre Company is back with its 4th annual Black History Celebration: Pro Black One Acts Festival. Join us live as we hold space for and explore Blackness within the African diaspora through three diverse plays by emerging Black playwrights.

Featuring: Raising Junior by Cris Eli Blak, Black Magic For Reals by Monique C. Aldred, How Dare You! by Kendra Augustin, and Banana Pudding by Milu Ellis.

How Dare You! Written by Kendra Augustin. Directed by Mecca Mcdonald. Cast: Onyx Èspri and Mylon Joseph.

A couple, six months into their relationship, play a game to figure out if their romance is worth sticking with.

Raising Junior Written by Cris Eli Blak. Directed by Dontaé Hawkins. Cast:

During his mother’s funeral, a young man is approached by his absent father, who has come to try to resolve the problems of the past, but some wounds are not easily healed.

Black Magic For Reals by Monique C. Aldred. Directed by Leoh and Epiphany Samuels. Cast: Vivette Alston, D’Asia Brunson, G Mama Lee, and Brandon Weber.

Black Magic for Reals is a story of two witchy sisters: level-headed, practical Acacia, and stubborn, rebellious Zafira. After yet another of Zafira’s magical experiments backfires, the sisters decide to join forces. They work to re-create a powerful spell, but can they stop bickering long enough to pull it off?

Banana Pudding by Milu Ellis. Directed by Milu Ellis. Cast: Julie Bausivoir, Tyquanda Johnson and Rashanda White.

Three generations contend with the stifling expectations Black women are socially conditioned to embrace in response to trauma. Deconstructing mechanisms of complacency, “Banana Pudding” is a short play about familial growth through collaborative healing.

Pro Black One Acts will be live at Wow Cafe Theater in Manhattan, New York. The shows will take place on Friday July 29th 2022 at 7pm, Saturday July 30th at 2pm and 7pm and Sunday July 31st at 7pm.
