Join our teen ensemble this Memorial Day weekend in a reworking of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. Although traditionally viewed as a comedy, we felt that it was more appropriately interpreted as a tragedy. To supplement the narrative, we have enlisted the voices of a range of poets, musicians, and artists. From Dylan Thomas to Sam Sax, Kesha, and our own peers, these additional pieces add other facets to the story and enhance the conversation.

One of our lead actresses, Maeve Farrell, said of the show, “It’s a feminist analysis of the classic, troubled Shakespeare play which incorporates modern text and music to examine abuse and power dynamics among men and women. I’m excited to be a part of it, and honored to be included among the truly amazing cast. We’re entirely independent, student-directed, and student-produced–this is basically the product of the brilliant Julia Smith having an idea and recruiting 8 other students to join the insanity.” Our cast ranges from ages 13-19. We are proud to be creating art and establishing ourselves in the NYC theater scene at a young age, and to be bringing something new to the table.

Directed and Produced by Julia Smith
