Artist Bios:

Vinny (Virginia Cruz): Bachelors Degree in Dramatic Arts from William Patterson University, where she did such plays as; Grease, Lil Abner, The Fantastics, Ain't Misbehavin' and Marad\Sade. She was also in the chorus of the off Broadway production of "The Healers".
For the past year and a half she has been part of the ensemble "The King of Hearts". Drag shows included locations such as The 2005 Brooklyn Gay Pride Boat Show, Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, B-52's (Remix), The Platinum Lounge and assorted New York Venues.
Her goal to reach the audiences is to bring theatrical comedy to all her performances. She would like to send her thanks to all her latinas lesbians for the support of her art.

Papito (Desi Martinez) has performed in several pride parades inclusive of Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and New Jersey. Currently she is singing with the Lavender Light Gospel Choir as an Alto, for the likes of Hillary Clinton, Christine Quinn and those in the life.
She is also the Founder of "The King of Hearts" as well as the Artistic Director. All her performances have been done live with her own vocals.
She carries the love of entertaining people outside of the norm; Mothers and Grandmothers alike and still find the time to give back to the Gay/Home communities. Her venues of performance have been Brooklyn, Queens Manhattan, Bronx and New Jersey. She gives to you in her own words: To Thine Own self be true-be it King or Queen always be true to thine-self.

Macha (Eliabeth Marrero) first burst onto the club scene with her Drag act in 1998 for a fund raiser for Dyke TV. She quickly became a name in certain households with her diverse manifestations of Macha. She began her performance career with Bessie Award winner dancer/choreographer Arthur Aviles in performing the role of "Maeva" in over a dozen dance pieces for the past 15 years and in 2003 she performed Arturella at Dance Theatre Workshop.

In 2001 she premiered her own one-woman comedy show "Machataso: A One Woman Cho" in the BAAD! ASS WOMEN 2001 and the show had a 3 week, sold-out extended run in November of that same year. Since then she premiered her subsequent one-woman shows "Macha Does Vegas in 2002", "Petronelia's Finca in 2003", "Petronelia:Her Broadway Show" in 2004 and "The Macha Monologues" in 2005. She now adds "Santa Macha" for 2006 to her portfolio, airing in November 2006 at BAAD!

In addition to performing at BAAD!,she has performed at WOW Cafe, The Lovinger Theatre, Pregones Theatre, Long Island University, and in many alternative Clubs in Manhattan. She received a 2003 BRIO (Bronx Recognizes It's Own) Award from the Bronx Council on the Arts as well as receiving a 2006 Tanne Foundation Award for Emerging Artists. She has performed in the United States, France and Puerto Rico. Macha would like to send many thanks to God, her Family and to the Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance. Without their support - Macha and all her other characters could not live-SO THANK YOU ALL !!!

^Macha

WOW Mission Statement

WOW Cafheater is a womens theater collective in NYCs East village, which promotes the empowerment of women through the performing arts. Historically, WOW has been a majority lesbian womans space.

WOW welcomes the full participation of all women and transpeople in solidarity with women, especially women and transpeople of color, those who are lesbian, bisexual, and queer identified, and from low income backgrounds.

We strive to understand the links between oppressions and strives to be multilingual, open to all sexualities and spiritualities, intergenerational, and to challenge racism, classism, ableism, sexism, ageism, and sizeism. Our weekly Tuesday meeting and collective structure provide a space for artists to share their ideas, facilitate the exchange of labor and knowledge, and realize their creative visions.
