The construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, DAPL, was halted on December 4th at Standing Rock*. It was a victory for Indigenous sovereignty, for the protection of clean water, and for slowing climate change.

*On December 4th, 2016 the United States Army Corps of Engineers announced that it is denying an easement to Dakota Access, LLC (Dakota Access) to drill under Lake Oahe and the Missouri River for the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), until an Environmental Impact Statement is completed and alternative routes are explored. The pipeline is designed to transport crude oil.
